(B) Al-Madd al-Far'i, The Subordinate 

 
RULE NO.36
If a word includes any one of the three letters of al-Madd, its duration should be stretched by up to two measures of harakah, and it should be called al-Madd al-Asli.
Example Analysis:
Example No. 753, Qala: Here, Alif is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by fathah on the letter Qaf.

Example No. 758, Fih; In this word, Yd' is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by Kasrah under Fa'.
 

Example No. 765, Fayaqulun: Here, Waw is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by dammah on Qaf.


(B) Al-Madd al-Far'i, The Subordinate Stretch
The Subordinate Stretch emerges when a letter of madd and a cause of madd are connected and the connection should not merely be confined to the writing but should apply to the reading as well. The invariable hamzah, sukun and shaddah are the three causes of madd.
