Recitation consonant  Ra
This chapter explains the pronunciation of consonant (ر  ) Ra' which can be broad and thin.
RULE No.8
The letter Ra' should be recited with a broad sound if it carries either fathah or dammah in a word.

الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمْ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ (276)

RULE No.9
The letter Ra' should be recited with a thin sound if it carries kasrah in a word.
Example Analysis:
Example No. 277, Rihlah: The letter Ra' should be recited with a thin sound as the R in rift and receipt.

The letter Ra' should be recited with a broad sound if it is sakin, quiescent, and the preceding letter carries either fathah or dammah.

RULE No.11
The letter Ra' should be recited with a thin sound if it is sakin, quiescent, and the preceding letter carries kasrah provided:
      i.     The kasrah which precedes the letter Ra' must be original, i.e. that it is not added for the sake of convenience in recitation. For example:   irji'u (12: 81)
     ii.     The letter Ra' and kasrah must appear in a single word (in the following example this appears in two words):  rabbirji'un (23: 99)
    iii.     A word which includes the letter Ra' sakin, quiescent as one of the seven letters of musta'liyyah (Kha', Sad, Dad, Ta', Za', Ghayn and Qaf) should not appear after the letter Ra' (in the following examples musta'liyyah letters appear after Ra' sakin, quiescent:
 قِرطاَسٍ (6: 7)     اِرْصاَدً  (9: 107)     قِرْقَةٍ (9:122)      لَبِالْمِرْصاَدٍ (89:14)

RULE No.12
The letter Ra' should be recited with a thin sound if it is sakin, quiescent, because of the final stop and the preceding letter is Ya' sakin, quiescent.

وَإِنْ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ إِلَّا خلَا فِيهَا نَذِيرٌ (335)
RULE No.13
The letter Ra' should be recited with a broad sound if it is sakin, quiescent, and if a sakin letter other than Ya' precedes it, which is preceded by a letter which carries either fathah or dammah.
Example Analysis;
Example No. 336, al-Amr; The letter Ra' should be recited only in the case of a pause with a broad sound, as in Rule 8. Otherwise it should be recited according to the short vowel it carries: in case of  fathah and dammah it should be recited with a broad sound and in the case of kasrah it should be recited with a thin sound.

RULE No.14
The letter Ra' mushaddadah, hardened, should be recited with a broad sound if it carries either fathah or dammah.

RULE No.15
The letter Ra' mushaddadah, hardened, should be recited with a thin sound if it carries kasrah.
Example Analysis;
Example No. 375, Hurrima: The letter Ra' should be recited with a thin sound with some stress manifesting shaddah.
