Al-Silah al-Sughra. The Minor Connection

RULE NO.48

The third person suffix singular masculine pronoun should be stretched either for dammah or kasrah up to two harakah provided:

(i)    The   preceding   letter   is  mutaharrik   and   carries harakah. 

(ii)   Hamzah al-wasl, the conjunctive hamzah does not appear after it.

This madd is known as al-Silah al-Sughra, The Minor Connection.

Example Analysis:

Example No. 852, Wara'ahu: In this word the preceding letter hamzah of the suffix Ha' is mutaharrik and Hamzah at-Wasl, the conjunctive hamzah, does not appear after it. Ha' should be stretched by two harakah.

	وَخَتَمَ عَلَى سَمْعِهِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَجَعَلَ عَلَى بَصَرِهِ غِشَاوَةً (865)
	إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ (866)
	وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا (867)
	فَأَنزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُ بِجُنُودٍ لَمْ تَرَوْهَا (868)
	ثُمَّ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مُصَدِّقٌ لِمَا مَعَكُمْ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِ وَلَتَنْصُرُنَّهُ (869)
