IV    Al-Lin, The Gentle

RULE NO.47

The duration of the stretch should be by two harakah if the medial letter of a word is either Ya' or Waw sakin, quiescent, and the preceding consonant carries fathah. This madd is known as al-Lin, the Gentle.
 

Example Analysis:

In Examples Nos. 842-9, the duration of the stretch should be for two harakah when an accidental pause is observed because these words include either the letter of madd Ya' which is preceded by the letter which carries fathah or the letter Waw is preceded by a maftuh letter.

In Example No. 850, two harakah measures of stretch should be observed at the end of the four ayat of the Surah if the accidental pause is exercised because the final four words of the dydt include either the letter Waw or Ya' which are preceded by maftuh letters.
