I(b) Al-Munfasil, The Detached

RULE NO.38

The duration of the letter of madd should be stretched between three to five harakat, and is known as al-Madd al-Munfasil if a word ends with one of the three letters of al-Madd and the next word begins with hamzah.

Example Analysis:

Example No. 786, Inna A'taynaka: The first word Inna's last letter, Alif sakin, is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by Nun maftuh and the next word, A'taynaka, begins with hamzah. It should be stretched between three to five harakat.

Example No. 790, ft Anfusikum: Here, the first word Fi's last letter, Ya' sakin, is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by Fa' maksur and the next word, Anfusikum, starts with hamzah. It should be stretched between three to five harakat.

Example No. 792, Qu Anfusakum: The first word, Qu, ends with Waw sakin which is one of the letters of madd because it is preceded by the letter Qaf Madmum and the next word, Anfusakum, begins with hamzah. It should be stretched between three to five harakat.
